Ucell NGN/MPLS Project for Uzbekistan by Probil (September 2009)

Probil is establishing the largest series routers in 13 cities of Uzbekistan including the cities of Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara under  Ucell NGN/MPLS Project...

Ucell, a subsidiary of Telia Sonera operated by Fintur, aims to strengthen its network by making investments and increasing its market share in Uzbekistan by increasing its capacity. Ucell makes various investments for this purpose. One of these investments is the re-formation with the latest technology products of the MLPS (Multi protocol label switching) network which is one of the most important components of the NGN (Next generation networks ) architecture. The MPLS network establishing the infrastructure to support more subscribers, high quality voice calls and other mobile applications is of critical importance for mobile operators. To this end, Ucell is cooperating with Probil in the NGN/MPLS Project.

Probil is active with its offices in 13 cities of Uzbekistan including the cities of Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara under the project. The company has designed the MPLS network of UCELL Uzbekistan utilizing the CRS1 series and 7600 series products of Cisco which are known as the highest capacity terabyte router.

UCELL is going to be working with Probil in network maintenance and support even after the project has been completed.

In order to be able to carry out a project in this scope in Uzbekistan, which is thousands of kilometers away, it is necessary to be specialized and competent on the subject and to be capable of performing very good project management. Probil has achieved significant investments on high capacity MPLS networks and it is extending its operations abroad as the only company in Turkey with the certificates of Cisco XR Authorized Technology Provider (ATP) and new generation CRS-1 routers of Cisco.

Ucell Transport Network&Enterprise IT Director Oğuz Erce Bölükbaşı has commented as follows: “We achieved similar datanetwork projects in various countries previously. We are maintaining our cooperation in Ucell NGN/MPLS project. Ucell guarantees that the voice, video and data traffic created by its rising number of subscribers will be transmitted in the network without any problems with this project. In addition, Ucell aims to differentiate itself in the competition by having a network which allows high performance and quality operation of the IP (Internet Protocol) based and other infrastructure elements and applications.”

About the services:

The need for large scale bandwidth use, high speed access technologies such as fiber to the home, VDSL and 3G, require higher capacity and reliable routers in the operator backbone. Probil addresses this problem for the first time in Turkey with its Cisco solution. The new trends of today requiring large scale bandwidth use such as new internet applications, Video on Demand, IP TV, MultiCast applications, Video Conference, Remote training, commercial business applications, fiber to the home, VDSL and 3G and other high speed access technologies require much higher capacity routers in the operator backbone with regard to the past. In particular, with the newly granted licenses in telecommunication sector, many service providers are utilizing fiber optical cables in the intracity and intercity lines.

Cisco CRS-1 (Carrier Routing System) is offered to the Turkish market by the strategic business partner of Cisco as a router that will put this capacity into service. CRS-1 is a huge capacity router which can be scaled up to 92 terabytes of routing capacity on one system. This means that CRS-1 can transmit 15 million high resolution video streams through a single system, and this equals to hundreds of times the routers used today. In addition it connects directly to fiber optical networks with IPoDWDM technology and this helps operators get rid of all traditional TDM and SDH based systems. Probil also offers Cisco’s new router ASR series 9000 providing very high capacity. ASR 9000 is also known as the fastest "Access Edge" router available with its access of 400 Gbps per slot and routing capacity of 6.4 terabyte in total.

Probil, which has been improving its strategic business partnership with Cisco for many years, has qualified to obtain Cisco IOS XR Authorized Technology Provider (ATP) certificate. Probil, as the leader of the industry, offers the best solutions and consultancy services to its customers, and now is the only authorized Cisco business partner in selling, establishing and offering services for IOS XR based Cisco CRS-1, GSR and ASR series routers in Turkey.

The largest platform of Cisco, CRS-1 utilizes a special operating system called XR unlike other Cisco routers. The GSR 12000 series routers currently used by Cisco in Turkey can also be upgraded to the XR software and have many carrier class features offered by this software. The ATP business partnership covers all platforms with XR operating system. Pointing out to the fact that revolutionary innovations are offered by Cisco CRS-1, Probil Vice General Manager Necmi Ön has said:

“Cisco is a very important producer with who we enjoy a close cooperation and whose products and competencies we integrate to create synergy in accordance with the objectives of our customers. Cisco IOS XR Authorized Technology Provider (ATP) given to us by Cisco, will provide the opportunity for our customers to benefit from the advanced internet technologies. As result of the competency of Probil, which has been providing infrastructure solutions in Telecommunications sector for many years, Probil has become the XR authorized business partner of Cisco. 4 experts of Probil have been trained abroad and have gained the technical competency to design and establish and implement XR based networks. Furthermore, CRS-1 also offers revolutionary innovations on availability which is very important for the Telecom operators.

Cisco Türkiye Vice General Manager Alp Önder Güler commented as follows: “Probil is an important business partner of ours with who we have achieved successful projects in many sectors. CRS-1 introduced to the Turkish market by Probil holding a Cisco IOS XR ATP certificate, eliminates many of the technical barriers obstructing development of advanced applications for operators and it also helps them to scale particularly their fiber optical network investments. With CRS-1 which is a part of the New Generation IP Architecture for the service providers, individual and corporate internet users will be able to use higher quality, personalized and network supported internet”.

Probil performs support and operation of all their Information Technologies infrastructure and activities in such a manner to allow its customers to focus on their original works.
